The left ear can sound different then the right, if a person pays attention they can sense which direction the communication is coming from. Some of the terms you folks love to throw around to insult the people are nutcase, conspiracy theorist, mentally ill, witch, the devil etc. So why would anyone speak out about these things? They can lose their jobs, families, friends, freedom, creditability and everything else in the time it takes for me to type this sentence.
You notice your pets are also seeing the same things & are scared or behaving strangely & avoiding certain areas of your house all of a sudden.
Beautiful Minds is a great illustration of what spirit torment can look like in the form of voices, visions and paranoia.
Seeing everything in the natural world around you change where it doesn’t look like it’s supposed to. i.e. Houses, neighborhoods, street signs, highway exit signs, the sky. (This is why people are getting lost and have no clue where they are)

Almost got petitioned for a 5150, I was pissed at my mom who claimed to be a “Christian” then did this to me… until the doctor gave me a page of the petition. I was still pissed but I understood why she did it…
Felt zero pain anywhere in my body. Lost track of time where I had no idea where I was or what I was doing for hours or days. Couldn’t tell if I was alive, dead, dreaming or on a totally different planet.
I experienced audible voices screaming at me loudly. Ringing and whirring in my ears. Nonstop visions. I aLao seen angels, devils, spirits, creatures, elders… you name it, I probably saw it.

In some cases you can combine all of these films plus some to understand the complete extent of the torment. It’s very intense and the person going through it is scared half to death. The film Mother! literally gives me “PTSD” because of the mental anguish it is able to capture.
If you do the math on every single person experiencing these things, the sum of them are a hell of a lot larger than what statistics are showing. That is just the peope who are actually reporting this to an authority who keeps track. Most do not report this because of stupid questions and assumption like this question & the stigma associated with these things.
